We are a small, family-owned veterinary clinic in the Granite Square building on State Street — a real practice, not a chain. Our doors first opened in 2012; the same family has been behind them ever since.

Direct Access to Specialists

We have direct access to 24-hour care and specialists at Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine, located at 4 Devine Street in North Haven, CT — our sister facility.

Fear Free–informed care

We use low-stress handling techniques, positive reinforcement, and calm exam methods at every visit. Our practice manager Mickey holds individual Fear Free certification.

USDA-Accredited

Dr. Lisa MacKay is USDA-accredited (Category II) in the state of Connecticut, meaning she can issue official international and domestic health certificates for pet travel. This is a specialized credential not available at every clinic.

In-House Diagnostics

Our clinic is equipped with comprehensive in-house laboratory testing for accurate, same-visit diagnosis — backed by a reliable reference laboratory for specialized panels.

2012

Doors open at 686 State Street

Drs. Lisa and Morgan MacKay sign a lease in the Granite Square building, hire a small founding team, and see their first patient on a Tuesday morning in October.

2013

Dr. Christine Crocker joins

A veterinarian whose patients still come back specifically for her — she's been part of the family ever since.

Dr. Courtney Walsh joins the team

A fourth veterinarian to expand availability — and shorten the time between when you call and when you can be seen.

In the Granite Square Building, on State Street.

In addition to routine and preventative veterinary wellness care, we are also pleased to offer care for sick and chronic conditions, domestic and international travel services, surgical and dental services, microchipping, and specialized and breed-specific testing.

We offer drop off exams for the owner with a very busy schedule, and appointment times ranging from 8:30am to 5pm, with Saturday availability as well. At the Veterinary Wellness Center of New Haven, we treat your pets as if they were our own!

The Granite Square building dates to the 1880s — original brick, tall windows, slow-moving radiators in winter. We share the building with a handful of small businesses and a coffee shop downstairs. It’s the opposite of a strip-mall vet experience, and that’s intentional.
