Make sure your pet always gets home safely!

At the Veterinary Wellness Center we offer microchipping.  Using a needle, we insert a microchip the size of a grain of rice underneath your pet’s skin.  The HomeAgain®️ microchips that we use do not migrate, so they will stay in place throughout your pet’s life.

Each microchip has a unique code which identifies your pet.  If your pet goes missing, you simply alert HomeAgain®️ by calling their hotline, and they will begin notifying shelters and veterinarians within a 25 mile radius of where you lost your pet.  Most shelters and veterinarians are equipped with microchip scanners to scan your pet when it is found, and HomeAgain®️ will contact you with your pet’s location.                                                                              

Microchips are great, because the tags on your pet’s collar can wear and become hard to read over time.  With a microchip, your pet will always be identifiable. Microchipp Registration

After microchipping, your pet’s chip must be registered to you in the HomeAgain® database — this is what allows shelters and vets to contact you when your pet is found.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does microchipping hurt?
It’s similar to a routine vaccine injection — a brief pinch. No anesthesia is needed. Most pets don’t react noticeably.
No. A microchip is a permanent backup ID — it can only be read with a special scanner. A collar with a visible ID tag is still the fastest way for someone to return a lost pet. Use both.
We can scan your pet’s existing chip to confirm it’s still reading and that your registration is current. Outdated contact information in the database is one of the most common reasons microchipped pets don’t make it home.
Anytime — including at your first puppy or kitten visit. Many pets are also microchipped during spay/neuter surgery since they’re already under anesthesia. We’re happy to do it at any appointment.

Need emergency or after-hours care?

VWCNH does not offer 24-hour emergencies. For overnight monitoring and specialty referrals we partner with our sister facility, Central Hospital for Veterinary Medicine in North Haven — open 24/7, 365.
